Dock Worker's Management Board of CPA
Regarding Dock Workers’ the Government of Bangladesh has enacted an Act which is known as Dock Workers’ (Regulation of Employment) Act, 1980. According to the provisions of this Act, Dock Workers’ (Regulation of Employment) Scheme 1986 has come into force. The prime objectives of the Act for this port a Scheme for the regulation of employment of Dock workers whether registered or not, and also for the registration of Dock Workers and employers with a view to ensuring greater regularity of employment and for efficient and economic turn-round of ships and vessels and to the direction, it become imperative to register the Dock Workers and their employers to look after the Dock Workers welfare, to train them and to undertake such ancillary and supplementary activities, conductive towards the main objective for which the Act came into force. Keeping that in view, the Dock Workers management Board has been established. There are 13(thirteen) members of the Board. All members other than Chairman are appointed by the Govt. The Chairman of CPA is the ex-officio Chairman of the Board and Vice-Chairman of the Board is appointed by the Govt. to perform duties specified in the Scheme or as may be assigned to him by the Govt. and efforts are being made and plans are underway to standardize the gangs formation, to enforce the equal distribution of works through one serial booking, to train the dock workers to improves their skills and such welfare activities including establishment of residential accommodation, and also establishing 50 bedded Hospital including care of health, family welfare, recreational activities etc. It is a new venture and the progress so far made may be considered satisfactory, since the Dock Worker's task is supplementary and complementary to the port workers, Training course is being initiated for the port workers too. And large number of port workers has by now been trained to take up additional responsibilities. |
